David Barratt studied at the Universities of St. Andrew’s, Oxford and Liverpool, receiving Masters degrees in English and Education. He has taught extensively in England, Pakistan and the U.S.A., and for many years was Senior Lecturer in English at Chester College (now the University of Chester). He continues to be an A level examiner and team leader, with many years’ experience.

 

Rev Howard Bigg (M.A., M.Phil.)

Howard Bigg read Theology at Cambridge and carried out research on the Synoptic Gospels. He was Director of Studies in Theology at Hughes Hall, Cambridge before he retired, and supervised students in New Testament studies for many years.

 

Rt Rev Colin Buchanan (D.D., M.A.)

Bishop Colin Buchanan has edited three major collections of Anglican eucharistic liturgies worldwide, and has written extensively on the history of the Prayer Book from Cranmer's time to our own. For 29 years he edited the Church of England's monthly journal of liturgy, News of Liturgy, and has also been the author of many booklets and liturgical studies in the Grove Books and Alcuin/GROW series. He was a consultant editor for the recent Oxford Guide to the Book of Common Prayer.

 

Dr Paul Cavill (B.A., M.Phil., Ph.D.)

Paul Cavill is Principal Research Fellow for the English Place-Name Survey and Lecturer in English Studies at the University of Nottingham. His principal research interests are in place-names and the language and literature of the Anglo-Saxons, but he has also written on proverbs and the Christian tradition in English literature more widely.

 

Rev Dr Adrian Chatfield (B.A., M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D.)

Adrian Chatfield has been involved in theological education in England and Southern Africa since 1988, most recently at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford and now Ridley Hall, Cambridge. He has taught Church History, Systematic Theology, Pastoral Studies, Worship and Spirituality. His research fields include the Radical Reformation, Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity, and the Gospel in an Afro-Caribbean context.

 

Heather Coombs(M.A. Cantab., Dip. Ed. Oxon.)

Heather Coombs was formerly Head of English at Nottingham High School for Girls, where she taught A level English Literature, Language, and combined Language and Literature. She is on the English Subject Advisory Panel for the AQA examination board, and has published Keats and Shelley in the 'Authors in their Age' series. She regularly gives talks on Shakespeare.

 

Susan Coyne (B.A., P.G.C.E., Dip. Acting & Musical Theatre) Susan Coyne studied at Leeds and Nottingham universities before teaching English and Theatre Studies up to A Level for a number of years. She has also trained and worked as an actress and is a Lay Reader in the Church of England.

Dr Dee Dyas(B.A., M.A., Ph.D.)

Dee Dyas is Director of the Christianity and Culture Project, founded in 1999 to equip students with the necessary cultural tools to study literature, history and art significantly influenced by Christian thought and spirituality. The Project is based at the Centre for Medieval Studies, University of York and St John's College, Nottingham. Michael Kerrigan has written widely on all aspects of history and literature. His books include Ancient Rome (BBC, 2001), Greece and the Mediterranean (BBC, 2001) and The Ancients in Their Own Words (3C, 2009). Elizabeth Ludlow recently completed her PhD on 'Christina Rossetti and Biblical Typology' in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick. She is currently teaching Romantic and Victorian poetry to undergraduate students. Her research interests include Victorian literature, biblical criticism, and feminist theory.

Andrew taught English for many years, and was Head of English in two different schools, before moving into university research. He has worked for the University of East Anglia and for Cambridge University, and has written and spoken on things educational over many years. From 1996, he worked as an Ofsted inspector and consultant, taking early retirement in 2007.

Peter Preston (B.A., M.A., Cert.Ed., F.R.S.A.)

Peter Preston was formerly Director of the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Nottingham, where he is now Special Lecturer in English Studies. He has published annotated editions of texts by Arnold Bennett, Charles Dickens, D.H. Lawrence and Katherine Mansfield, and has written a book-length chronology of Lawrence as well as many essays and articles on nineteenth and twentieth century authors. He is an experienced teacher and is currently studying for an undergraduate Certificate in Art History.

 

Linden Smith (B.A., M.A., P.G.C.E.)

Linden Smith studied English at Lancaster and Salford universities.  She has had a long career which has included teaching English at a sixth form college, comprehensive schools and an independent college, where she was a team leader.  She continues to teach A-level English and has experience of a number of different specifications.

Rev Dr David Spriggs (D.Phil., B.A.)

David Spriggs carried out Old Testament Research at Oxford University for his D.Phil. He has written several books and articles relating to the use of the Bible and is Bible Society's Consultant for Bible and Church. He has also managed their partnership with Cardiff University which has published three volumes on The Use of the Bible in Pastoral Practice.

Diane Walker studied English Literature and Latin at Hull University. She is an experienced teacher at both secondary and primary levels and has written over 30 books on topics such as R.E., assembly and literacy. She has worked as a consultant for the BBC and has provided Inset training nationally.

Heather Williamson (B.A., Cert.Ed., M.B.E.)

Heather Williamson has carried out research in Linguistics at Cambridge and taught English at all levels. She has written both A Level study notes and poetry and was recently awarded an MBE for her work in education and the community. She is a Lay Reader in the Church of England.

 

Ira B. Zinman (B.S., J.D.)

Ira B. Zinman is a lawyer, writer, filmmaker, and independent scholar who specialises in the Biblical and spiritual elements in Shakespeare’s Sonnets. He has taught and lectured extensively on Shakespeare, having presented on Shakespeare’s Sonnets at the Ohio Shakespeare Conference. He is the author of Shakespeare’s Sonnets and the Bible: A Spiritual Interpretation with Christian Sources (foreword by HRH The Prince of Wales).
